Full disclosure, we skipped posting photos from the previous day because it was just a travel day. We flew from Oslo to Harstad/Narvik for the last leg of our trip. Photography wasn’t allowed at the airport due to military restrictions since we landed at a military airport.
Driving through the countryside was beautiful. We went from ocean views to tunnels under mountains, and even under the ocean. After over two hours of driving, we finally arrived in Svolvær. This album has photos from the day of our arrival up to the date published. Being further north in the Arctic Circle means longer days—the sun doesn’t set until after 10pm, and it’s still light out until it rises again at 4am.
Today’s hike was up Mt. Tjeldbergtind. The initial part of the hike was a mile-long upward climb. At the peak, with 50 feet to go, we had to use a chain permanently installed to help climb a nearly vertical rock face to get to the summit. As someone who’s afraid of heights, this was one of the scariest parts of the climb for me. The descent was also nerve-wracking because my legs felt like jello, and I had to focus on keeping my knees from buckling with each step down.
After the hike, we took a walk around Svolvær before ending the day with dinner and a drink at an ice bar.
